SASEF awards are broken down into several categories:
Senior Division
- Overall Winners
- Top two Senior Division win an all-expense-paid trip to the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair for themselves and their teacher
- Scholarship prizes vary from $25-1,000
- Certificate of Excellence Winners (awarded to projects that the team of judges deems to be excellent)
- Each COE winner receives at least $50
- Local Special Awards
- Vary from $50-500
- National Special Awards
- Honorable Mention Awards
Junior Division
- Overall Winners
- Scholarship prizes vary from $25-200
- Certificate of Excellence Winners (awarded to projects that the team of judges deems to be excellent)
- Each COE winner receives at least $50
- All Junior Division COE winners are nominated for a national middle school STEM competition sponsored by Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.
- Local Special Awards
- Vary from $50-500

- American Chemical Society, East Tennessee Section
- $50 to best chemical sciences project in both Junior and Senior Divisions
- American Institute of Chemical Engineers
- $75 to best application of chemical engineering in both Junior and Senior Divisions
- American Meteorological Society, Smoky Mountain Chapter
- $100/each to two outstanding projects involving meteorology, climate, or atmospheric/oceanic science
- Excellence in Life Science Award
- $100 Anonymous biology teacher provides an award for excellence in life science research
- Howard L. Bruer Award
- The Tennessee Entomological Society gives this award each year to a student who has made an outstanding accomplishment in entomological activities in Tennessee.
- Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), East Tennessee Section
- $100 to best demonstrations of electrical or electronics design or computer science in both Junior and Senior Divisions
- Jewelry Television
- JTV gift packages to projects in both Junior and Senior Divisions
- Joanne Logan Sustainability Prize
- $50 to the student of a project with sustainability at its core
- $100 to the student’s teacher
- Knox County Superintendent’s Award
- $50 to an outstanding project
- Oak Ridge National Lab
- $500 and a letter from the Director of ORNL to one outstanding project
- SASEF Staff Awards
- $50 cash awards and certificates to the fair staff’s favorite projects
- Strata-G
- Certificate awarded to a project that addresses stewardship and sustainability of the environment
- Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, Great Smoky Mountain Alumni Chapter
- $100 to outstanding projects in engineering in both Junior and Senior Divisions
- Tennessee Science Teachers Association (TSTA)
- $50 to a project that exemplifies outstanding adherence to the scientific method
