2022 SASEF Dates

SASEF is scheduled to be hosted as a “hybrid” event on the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus. Judging will be held on March 29, 2022 in the Student Union Ballroom and the awards ceremony will be held on March 31, 2022 in the Cox Auditorium.

The fair will be held in-person as it has been done traditionally in the past with students at their posters during judging. In addition to the in-person aspect, all students will be asked to upload a digital copy of their poster to a virtual platform. Judges will use this platform to access posters and project information. The virtual platform will allow increased access so that those students who cannot attend in-person – for whatever reason – can still participate virtually in the 2022 fair. Use this suggested timeline to start planning your STEM project for the 2022 SASEF!

About the Southern Appalachian Science & Engineering Fair

The Southern Appalachian Science & Engineering Fair (SASEF) is an annual event traditionally held during the last week of March or first week of April on the campus at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Students are invited to present their research covering a variety of categories in STEM. There are two divisions of competition — Junior Division for middle school students, grades 6 – 8, and Senior Division for high school students, grades 9 – 12.

In 2020 and 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SASEF was hosted in a virtual format. Check out these photos of the 2020 event. You can also find a list of the 2020 award winners here and a list of the 2021 award winners here
