Henry Fribourg Teacher Grants

 

The Trusts Division of the Southern Appalachian Science & Engineering Fair (SASEF) has a program to encourage innovative science and engineering instructional programs and materials for science teachers in the 23-county area served by SASEF.

Three awards are available – 1st place $1000, 2nd place $750, 3rd place $500. The winners will be notified in writing soon after the submission deadline, and a check issued to the teacher’s school. Winners are required to send a short report about the use and impact of their grant money by the end of the 2025-26 school year.

The purpose of the SASEF Endowment Committee is (1) to foster education in science and engineering and (2) to encourage young men and women to pursue careers in science and engineering through teacher-led educational activities in science and engineering classes.

Successful Proposals

Proposals should address all items on the Trust Fund Application form. In general, successful proposals have been for:

  • Purchases of science and engineering equipment/materials
  • Teacher and student participation in competitions/symposia
  • Teacher attendance at specific meetings for professional development

Examples of funded proposals in the past include:

  • Small laboratory incubator
  • Ohaus school balance
  • Beakers and other plastic or glass labware
  • Models for tectonic plates
  • Mitosis manipulation, and biomes and ecosystems bingo
  • Electronic balance
  • Sterilizer
  • Other general equipment needed for the science and mathematics laboratory

How to Apply

Please use this online grant application form (will be posted Oct. 1)  to complete and submit your proposal. In addition, a support letter from your principal should be e-mailed to Joanne Logan at loganj@utk.edu
